'머릿속 가구를 재배치하다'라는 말을 들어본 적 있는가. 같은 방, 같은 가구여도 배치만 바꾸면 분위기가 확 달라지는 것처럼, 같은 주제를 생각하더라도 사고의 순서나 구조를 바꾸면 새로움을 마주할 수 있다는 은유다. 미술, 디자인, 패션 등 창의성이 개입되는 영역에는 '순수한 새로움'에 대한 강박이 따르곤 한다. 새롭지 않으면 누군가를 따라 했다는 평가를 받는 일도 비일비재하다. 하지만 미술, 디자인, 패션은 맥락만 달리해도 새로움이 더해진다. 미술 옆에 있는 디자인, 디자인 옆에 있는 패션, 패션 옆에 있는 미술이 홀로 서 있을 때와 다른 의미를 갖는 것처럼. 머릿속 가구를 재배치하는 것은 성숙해 가는 창작자가 마주하는 단계이기도 하다. 세상에 없던 것을 보여주겠다는 초기 야망을 재평가하면서, 더 넓어진 시야로 동시대 창작자들의 일에도 관심을 가지면서. 그들과 나의 일 사이에 존재하는 잠재적 가능성을 고려할 수 있는 여유도 생긴다. 새로운 보금자리를 찾은 제이든 초는 그 단계에 접어든 듯하다. 그가 제안하는 것은 다름 아닌 '집'이다. 그의 옷이 정경은의 자수 작업, 원지현의 도자기, 박규한의 조명과 느슨한 관계를 이루고 있는 집. 아마 흔히 상상하는 집은 아닐 것이다. Have you ever heard the phrase "rearranging the furniture in your head"? Just as the atmosphere of a room can change dramatically simply by rearranging its furniture, this metaphor suggests that even when thinking about the same subject, altering the order or structure of your thoughts can lead to new insights. In fields where creativity plays a central role—such as art, design and fashion—there is often an obsession with "pure newness." It is not uncommon for work to be judged as mere imitation if it does not appear entirely new. Yet, a simple change in context can add a new dimension. Just as art next to design, design next to fashion, and fashion next to art take on different meanings. Rearranging the furniture in one's mind is also a sign of maturing creators. As they re-evaluate their youthful ambition to show the world something that has never existed before, they adopt a broader perspective, develop an interest in the work of their contemporaries, and consider potential connections between their work and that of others. Having found a new home, it seems that Jaden Cho has entered this phase. What he proposes is, quite simply, a "home": a space in which his garments form loose connections with Gyung-eun Chung's tapestry, Ji Hyun Won's ceramics, and Gyuhan Bak's lighting.
